The egg is made up of a brittle shell to allow the chick to break it from the inside. But this does not prevent it from being able to support several kilos of weight on top, since its vaulted shape makes the weight distributed and transmitted to the base on which the egg is.
With this simple experiment for children you can check the resistance of the egg and how it can support the weight of several books without breaking.
- 3 eggs
- 3 small glasses
- 1 plate
Tip: Set the plate and books carefully because otherwise the eggs could break.
1. Take three eggs and place them in three small glass cups.
2. Place an egg in each of the glass cups.
3. Carefully place a plate over the eggs.
4. Little by little, place several books on the plate to increase the weight and see how far the eggs can hold.
